| The View from Here This exhibition represents old and new work, work made individually and in collaboration, by Sherri Chaba and Lyndal Osborne. Sherri lives in Kelowna, BC however grew up on a family farm near Redwater, Alberta. She has witnessed changes to the land that explores issues to understand perspectives related to land stewardship and climate. Lyndal spent her formative years in Australia however now lives in Edmonton, Alberta. She has created art works inspired by concerns about food production, rapid urbanization, drought and water issues. The themes they explore are very timely – fossil fuel extraction, food production, rapid urbanization, effects of drought on rural agriculture, wetland management, species at risk, and glimpses into our future. Collapse, H2Oil and Experimental Extinction are works created collaboratively. Resource development and its effects on river systems and the lives of people, were themes explored together. Lyndal produced Cloudburst and Entrance as part of a larger installation piece, Drought, that focusses attention on ranches in Southern Alberta and NSW, Australia. This theme is explored imaginatively using real-life objects and constructions made from discarded materials. Sherri’s work titled, Scene Unseen, presents a critical observation of the ecosystems and species impacted by environmental change. Weight of Rain is an optimistic anticipation of much needed rain and explores the interconnectedness of climate, and water scarcity in the Okanagan where she now resides. |
