Lyndal Osborne Lyndal Osborne was born in Australia, studied at the National Art School, Sydney and received her MFA from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA. Since 1971, Osborne has lived in Edmonton, and is now Professor Emeritus, Department of Art and Design, University of Alberta. Osborne has been exhibiting in Canada and internationally since the early 1970s and has shown in over 360 exhibitions. She is represented in many private and public collections worldwide. Osborne focused her practice on print and drawing for the first 30 years of her career. Since 1996 she has concentrated on sculptures and installations using recycled material that she alters through the application of color, manipulating their original shape, and/or by placing the objects in new contexts so they develop new metaphorical meaning. This work speaks of the forces of transformation within nature, as well as commenting upon pressing issues relating to the environment such as examination of genetically modified organisms, the crisis in the global oceans and rapid urbanization. Her work is represented in numerous Canadian collections, including the National Gallery of Canada, Remai Modern, SK and the Art Gallery of Alberta, Edmonton. Recent exhibitions include Kelowna Art Gallery, 2025 Vernon Public Art Gallery 2024, Art Gallery of Alberta 2024, Red Deer Museum+ Art Gallery 2023, Remai Modern 2021, Nickle Art Galleries, 2018. |
